Overview

As the UX Designer with NYU Langone's Nudge Unit, I turned provider research on statin prescribing into behavioral-science insights and used them to design the Cardiovascular Risk Hub, a dashboard prototype helping clinicians act on patients' heart disease risk. I also built brand asset systems for the Nudge Unit and Digital Health Equity teams.

In Testingwith providers & clinicians

Challenge

A physician speaking with a patient in a clinic room

Critically, fewer than half of US adults at elevated cardiovascular risk receive evidence-based preventive therapies

At-Risk Patients

Clinicians struggle to gather and synthesize cardiovascular risk data from fragmented EHR systems — leading to time-consuming workflows and gaps in preventive care

Clinicians

A clinician standing in a corridor, hand to their forehead

Research

Six interviewee avatars — three primary care providers and three cardiologists — around sticky-note quotes: “All of my patients data is scattered everywhere”, “There are always new updated guidelines that I need to remember”, and “It’s important that all the information is easily accessible”
Interviewed 3 cardiologists and 3 primary care providers to find workflow pain points.

Problem Statement

How might we give clinicians a unified view of cardiovascular risk at the point of care?

Solutions

Designed for providersGuideline Based RecommendationsEach patient's next step appears in plain language, with the clinical reason and goal, so doctors can decide at a glance.
Designed for providersRisk Score, Already CalculatedHeart risk scores calculate automatically from Epic data, so doctors no longer re-enter values into outside tools.
Designed for providersRisk Beyond the ScoreRisk factors buried in EHR notes appear in one place, showing the full picture behind each patient's score.

Next Steps

  1. 1

    Test Version 2 with providers

    Find which layout helps providers

  2. 2

    Validate the customize view

See if it solves specialty needs or adds friction.

  3. 3

    Move toward the EHR

Map which data the Hub can pull from Epic.

Reflections

Frameworks turned quotes into decisions

Mapping interview themes to behavioral science models gave each design choice a reason clinicians could trust.

Every second counts at the point of care

Each card leads with the next step, not the data behind it.

Prototyping in code changed the conversation

Stakeholders clicked through real states, so feedback got more specific.
